At Tesla Electric, our Toronto electricians handle both residential and commercial jobs. For our residential clients, we offer services that include knob and tube replacement, LED lighting installation, lighting upgrades and pot lights, and hot water conversion. Here’s a quick look at each of these services.
Knob & Tube Removal/Replacement
Many of our Toronto neighborhoods boast beautiful older homes. While these homes include many charming features, quite a few of them still possess knob & tube wiring, which was quite the thing back in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s. That was fine when people had just a few items to plug in, such as a few lamps, a toaster, a radio and perhaps one or two other items.
Today, of course, families tend to have multiple television sets, computers, microwave ovens and many other electric devices and this old knob & tub wiring simply isn’t up to the task. In fact, this is a huge fire hazard, so we recommend that anyone who has this type of wiring in their homes have the electrical system upgraded to latest technology. While this is certainly an expense, new electrical systems are far more energy efficient and, most importantly, new electrical wiring and systems are much safer.
Hot Water Conversion
If you have an electric hot water heater, you might be surprised to learn just how much electricity this heater uses during the year. These water heaters are one of the largest users of electricity in the home. Grab a copy of your Toronto Hydro bill and if you see the words “Un-metered Water Heater Service” then you might want to consider switching this to metered billing. Metered billing is more accurate than flat-rate billing and it gives you a clearer picture of just how much energy you use for the water heater.
In order to make the switch to metered billing, you will need professional Toronto electricians to come in and perform the conversion. It is highly recommended that you select an ESA-approved, licensed electrician to perform this service. The ESA (Electrical Standards Authority) is a government-regulated organization that ensures that all of its approved contractors are meeting or exceeding standards. We are an ESA-approved contractor, so you never have to worry about the quality of our work. Once we’ve completed the conversion, ESA will inspect the work and after it passes inspection; your Tesla electrician will provide you with a certificate of proof for Toronto Hydro.
Lighting Upgrades: Pot Light & LED Installation
There are many reasons why it can be smart to install pot lighting in your home. Pot lights blend in with the décor seamlessly, so it doesn’t matter if you have a contemporary décor or more traditional stylings, your pot lights will blend in unobtrusively. Pot lights can be arranged to accent specific portions of your room. A well-designed lighting scheme can improve the ambiance of any room, and our professional Toronto electricians can make sure that your rooms and hallways are lighted to their best advantage. We can use MR16 LED bulbs for pot lights, which provide ample light (with dimming capabilities) while conserving energy.
LED lighting in general is excellent option for the home, and this type of lighting has many advantages over those old incandescent bulbs. For instance, when replacing a burned out incandescent bulb, one must wait a minute or two for the bulb to cool down. With LED lighting, almost no heat is produced, and not only does that mean changing bulbs is easier, it also means that LED lighting is far more energy efficient. While replacing your current lighting with LED lighting is an up-front cost, the savings on your electric bill will add up quickly.
LED lighting also lasts far longer than incandescent lighting. The lifespan of an LED light ranges from 25,000 hours up to 100,000 hours. Typically, incandescent bulbs only last about 2,000 hours at the most.
